In the year 1990 she was one of the first people to launch her own independent record label. DiFranco is the daughter of Elizabeth (Ross), and Dante Americo DiFranco. They were introduced at their school, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father was of Italian descent and her mother was born in Montreal. Ani DiFranco wrote and sang 32 Flavors. This song appeared on her fifth studio album Not a Pretty Girl which came out in 1995. The track was included in the soundtrack of the Canadian romantic comedy Better Than Chocolate, released in 1999. DiFranco apologised in 2013 when it was announced that she would be hosting the three-day workshop on an Louisiana plantation for slaves. The workshop was cancelled, however many (including this paper) did not show any remorse. DiFranco apologized for her mistake a couple of days later. The singer is well-known for her Little Folksinger music, but she has worked with several music genres, from Pete Seeger to Chuck D. New Orleans is her home. Ani DiFranco lives with Kristen Ford. Her new baritone guitar was a custom Alvarez created following several meetings between myself and Chrys Johnson who was the artist rep for Alvarez when the guitar was made. The guitar is equipped with their System 600 amp and is constructed from solid woods. This includes a cedar-top mahogany body and sides featuring an ebony fretboard. She is a resident of New Orleans, with her family: husband and two sons. Lefty is their dog friend who wanders around as she talks. DiFranco acknowledges that nearly three decades after her first appearance on the music scene, she isn't sure what to expect when looking back. The singer and songwriter from the punk/folk genre Ani DiFranco attained musical heroine status at the age of 25 in the eyes of both her fans and critics after her seventh album Not A Pretty Girl in 1995 and even greater popular success through Dilate the following year.
